The Arizona chapter of VOSH traveled to Navojoa, Sonora to take part in a vision clinic in association with the municipality of Navojoa, Pitic Rotary, VOSH Sonora, and the optometry schools at UAA (Aguascalientes) and UAS (Culiacan), plus students and instructors from Hermosillo.
The clinic ran as a series of stations following the patient care workflow: registration, auto-refraction, visual acuity, triage, refraction, ocular disease, optical, reading glasses, sunglasses, and a dedicated pediatric station. Our combined volunteer group of 108 consisted of 33 optometry students, 19 doctors, 15 translators, 32 volunteers, and 9 Rotarians.
2,237 patients were examined. 148 people were referred for cataract surgery, 1,264 prescription glasses were ordered, 461 readers were given out, and 1,400 sunglasses were dispensed.
